Menopause Isn’t Making You Lazy - It’s Draining Your Energy
As you move through midlife, you may have noticed your body changing. Sleep becomes disrupted, joints feel stiffer, anxiety or heart palpitations appear, energy drops, and brain fog creeps in. Many women also notice weight gain — particularly around the abdomen.
From a biological perspective, the menopause transition is driven by a gradual decline in the reproductive hormones oestrogen and progesterone, along with changes in key regulatory hormones from the pituitary gland. But the impact doesn’t stop with reproduction.
Oestrogen receptors are found throughout the body — in the brain, heart, breasts, liver, uterus, bones, muscles, blood vessels, and even the skin. As oestrogen levels naturally fall, these systems are affected too, which helps explain why menopause symptoms are so wide-ranging and often feel unrelated.
Menopause also marks the beginning of accelerated biological ageing. During this stage, several major organs begin to reduce in size and efficiency. For example, liver volume can decline significantly through the menopause transition, affecting metabolism, detoxification, and energy regulation.
It’s no surprise, then, that many women feel out of sync with their bodies - experiencing a loss of confidence, energy, and overall wellbeing in midlife.

I have over 20 years in the fitness industry and 16 years owning and running my own gym, I’ve spent decades coaching women through the physical and hormonal changes of midlife.
